HCRC Director to Speak at Science Communication Event

On March 13, MU will host “Engineering Connections between Politics and Science for the 21st Century,” held from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Memorial Union. This event is designed to be a forum where professionals, professors, and politicians can openly communicate about the interaction between their disciplines to create closer relationships and more productive ideas.

HCRC Director Jon Stemmle will speak on a panel about “How Media Facilitates the Interaction between Politics and Science” at 2 – 3:15 p.m. in Stotler Lounge. His talk will deal with his experiences with the SciXchange program , which teaches MU undergraduate science students how to get messages about their research to the public. SciXchange is a collaborative project between the Life Sciences Center and HCRC.

Other panels throughout the day include topics such as: space policy, patent law, STEM education, sustainable energy and regulation and entrepreneurship.

The event’s keynote speakers include former Missouri Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond; filmmaker and CEO of Sciencedebate.com, Shawn Lawrence Otto; and New Jersey Congressman and physicist, Rush Holt.

This free event is intended for students and faculty from all disciplines.
