HCRC Director Jon Stemmle will give a presentation on March 3 at the 7th Annual 4-H Youth Leaders Summit in Lake of the Ozarks at Windermere Conference Center. Stemmle will discuss the HCRC’s Photovoice Missouri project, in which middle and high school students from eight Missouri communities are taking photos showing good and bad examples of the healthy lifestyles (exercise, nutrition, built environment) that they see in their daily lives. This project is a partnership between MU Extension’s Healthy Lifestyle Initiative and the HCRC.
This year’s Summit theme is Join the Revolution of Responsibility with teams of youth and adults converging to talk about citizenship, healthy living, and science that impacts their local communities. The teams are made up of young people ages 13-18 active with 4-H Councils, Junior/Senior Leaders, Youth EXCEL, regional Youth Summits, County Extension Council youth and adults, and similar programs, along with the adults who support them. More than 130 people, representing 15 Missouri counties, are expected to attend.
The Summit offers young people and adults opportunities to make new friends, learn new leadership/citizenship skills, and have fun with peers from around the state. Weekend highlights include a Team Talent (T2) showcase, outdoor challenge course and recreation, open-space group planning and sharing, and mini-grant awards for implementing team projects.
